12 ~ 14 yrs. is an average. 17 ~ 18 yrs. is
not unheard of.
HOW BIG DO THEY GET?
13" to 15" at the shoulders is the breed standard.
The average weight is 10 ~ 14 #'s. It's not uncommon to have "larger specimans" in Rescue, and they make wonderful
companions too.
MAINTENANCE
IG's are generally low maintenance as far as bathing
and grooming goes. They do shed, but not much. It's important to keep nails trimmed, and ears cleaned. Especially
important is dental care! Regular brushing and maintenance is a must since poor dental health is common among the
breed. IG's must be indoor dogs as they have no body fat, and short thin coats. A doggie coat in the winter is advised.
IG's also hate inclement weather and may refuse to go outside in cold, wind, or rain.
ARE THEY HARD TO HOUSE TRAIN? Many will tell you IG's are hard to house train, and I'll tell you
that it's one of the number one reasons they're turned in to Rescue. IG's typically have very subtle cues, or no cues
at all to let you know they need to go out. They love to be warm and really despise going outside when the
weather is cold, wet or windy. You'll have the best "luck" with house training if you will keep your IG on a feeding
schedule, and a regular routine. When not home, it's recommended to keep your IG crated, or confined to one
